Migration
You need to move your site, and you can't afford to lose anything.
Moving a site feels like moving house: easy to do badly, calm when done well. I copy everything, test the new place thoroughly, and switch over only when it's ready.
Does this sound familiar?
- Your host is slow, expensive or unreliable and you want out.
- You're redesigning and need your content moved across intact.
- You're changing domain or merging two sites.
- Past moves have broken links, images or email.
What I do about it
- Copy everything first: files, database, media and settings.
- Test the new site fully before anything goes live.
- Switch over when traffic is quiet, with a way back.
- Check redirects, email and search visibility after the move.
How it works
Step 1
Plan the move
We agree what moves, where to, and when the switch should happen.
Step 2
Copy and test
I build the new site alongside the old one and test it thoroughly.
Step 3
Switch
I make the change when it suits you, and keep the old site as a safety net.
Step 4
Check afterwards
I verify links, redirects, forms and email, and watch for surprises.
Hosting matters here. I work with any host, and if you'd like a recommendation, I explain mine on the hosting page.
Questions you might have
Will my site go down?
Usually not. Visitors keep seeing the old site until the new one is ready, and the switch itself takes minutes.
Will my Google rankings suffer?
Not if redirects and settings are carried over properly, which is part of the job.
Do you handle email too?
I can move your email setup, or make sure it keeps working through the switch, so nothing is lost.
“I have been working with Matt for a few years now and he has helped make sure our ecommerce store is always running smoothly. He most recently helped us move to a new theme while making sure all data was transferred seamlessly!”
